Calendar Subscribe, Export & Import

Keep your personal calendar in sync with your community, export events for offline use, or bring in events from other calendar apps. These tools are available from the community calendar page.

Subscribing to a Community Calendar

Subscribing adds a live feed of your community's public events to your personal calendar app. When new events are created or existing ones change, your calendar updates automatically.

How to Subscribe

  1. Go to your community's Calendar page.
  2. Click Subscribe to Calendar.
  3. In the dialog that appears, choose your preferred method:
    • Open in Google Calendar — adds the feed directly to your Google Calendar
    • Open in Apple Calendar — opens the feed in Apple Calendar on your Mac or iPhone
    • Copy Feed URL — copies the calendar feed link so you can paste it into any calendar app that supports subscriptions (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.)

What Gets Included

The feed includes all public events in the community. Members-only events are not included in the feed for privacy reasons.

How Often Does It Update?

Your calendar app checks for updates roughly every hour. The exact timing depends on your app — some check more frequently, others less so.

Exporting Events

If you'd rather have a one-time snapshot instead of a live feed, you can export all public events as a single calendar file.

  1. Go to your community's Calendar page.
  2. Click Export.
  3. A .ics file is saved to your device. You can open it with any calendar app.

This is handy when you want to keep a copy of events without an ongoing subscription, or when you need to share the file with someone else.

Importing Events

Already have events in another calendar app? You can import them into your community's calendar from a .ics file.

How to Export from Other Apps

Before importing, you'll need to export events from your current calendar:

  • Google Calendar — Go to Settings, select the calendar, and click "Export calendar". This downloads a .ics file.
  • Apple Calendar — Select the calendar in the sidebar, then go to File > Export > Export... to save a .ics file.
  • Outlook — Open the calendar, go to File > Save Calendar, and save as an .ics file.

How to Import

  1. Go to your community's Calendar page.
  2. Click Import Events (you need event creation permissions).
  3. Upload your .ics file (up to 2MB).
  4. Review the list of events found in the file. Each event shows its name and date.
  5. Events that have already been imported are marked so you don't create duplicates.
  6. Select the events you want to import (or use Select All / Deselect All).
  7. Click Import to create the selected events.

What Gets Imported

  • Event name — from the calendar entry's title
  • Start and end dates — including all-day events
  • Description — the event details, if any
  • Location — the venue or address, if specified

Imported events are created as public events by default. You can edit them afterwards to change visibility, add images, tags, or other details.

Duplicate Detection

If you import the same file twice, events that were already imported are detected and flagged as "Already imported". This prevents accidental duplicates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can anyone import events? A: You need the same permissions required to create events. If you can create events in your community, you can import them too.

Q: What file formats are supported for import? A: Only .ics (iCalendar) files are supported. This is the standard format used by Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and most other calendar apps.

Q: Can I import members-only events? A: Imported events are created as public by default. After importing, you can edit individual events to change their visibility to members-only.

Q: Is there a limit to how many events I can import? A: You can import up to 100 events at a time. The file size limit is 2MB. Your community's upcoming event limit still applies based on your subscription plan.

Q: Will the calendar feed include past events? A: No, the feed and export only include upcoming events that haven't finished yet.
