Reporting Inappropriate Content

Keeping our communities safe is a shared responsibility. If you see content that violates community guidelines, you can report it to help maintain a positive environment for everyone.

When Should I Report Content?

You should report content when it falls into one of these categories:

Inappropriate Content

Content that is offensive, explicit, or violates community guidelines. This includes:

  • Explicit or adult material
  • Graphic violence
  • Content that promotes illegal activities

Spam

Unsolicited promotional content or repetitive posts, such as:

  • Advertisements unrelated to the community
  • Repetitive posts with the same content
  • Suspicious links or phishing attempts

Harassment

Content that targets, threatens, or bullies individuals:

  • Personal attacks or insults
  • Threats or intimidation
  • Discriminatory language
  • Coordinated attacks against individuals

Sharing Private Information (Doxing)

Doxing (also spelled "doxxing") is the act of publicly revealing someone's personal or private information without their consent. This is a serious violation that can put people at risk. Examples include:

  • Sharing someone's home address, phone number, or workplace
  • Revealing someone's real name when they use a pseudonym
  • Posting private photos or documents without permission
  • Exposing financial information, identification numbers, or passwords
  • Sharing location data that could allow someone to be tracked

Even if the information is technically public elsewhere, sharing it in a community context to target or expose someone is not acceptable.

Misinformation

False or misleading information that could:

  • Cause harm to community members
  • Spread false claims about individuals or organizations
  • Mislead people about important topics

Other

If content doesn't fit the categories above but still feels wrong, you can report it with the "Other" option and explain your concern.

How to Report Content

Reporting content is quick and confidential:

  1. Find the content you want to report (post, event, discussion, etc.)
  2. Click the flag icon on the content card or detail page
  3. Select a reason that best describes why you're reporting
  4. Add details (optional) - provide any additional context that might help moderators understand the issue
  5. Submit your report - click the "Submit Report" button

Your report will be sent to community moderators for review.

What Happens After I Report?

Immediate

  • Your report is recorded and linked to the content
  • You'll see a confirmation that your report was submitted
  • You can continue using the community normally

If Multiple People Report

When content receives multiple reports from different community members, it may be automatically hidden from public view while moderators review it. This helps protect the community from potentially harmful content.

Moderator Review

Community moderators will:

  1. Review the reported content
  2. Consider the context and community guidelines
  3. Make a decision about the content

Possible Outcomes

Content Approved: If moderators determine the content doesn't violate guidelines, it will remain visible. The original poster is notified that their content was reviewed and approved.

Content Removed: If the content violates guidelines, it will be removed from the community. The original poster is notified with an explanation.

Report Dismissed: If the report is determined to be unfounded, no action is taken against the content, and it remains visible.

Important Things to Know

Your Reports are Confidential

The person whose content you report will never know who reported them. Your identity is protected throughout the process.

Report Responsibly

Please only report content that genuinely violates community guidelines. False or malicious reports may result in action against your own account.

Rate Limits

To prevent abuse, there's a limit on how many reports you can submit per day. This helps ensure the reporting system is used appropriately.

You Cannot Report Your Own Content

If you need to remove your own content, use the edit or delete options instead of the report feature.

One Report Per Item

You can only report each piece of content once. If you've already reported something, you don't need to report it again - moderators have already been notified.

What If I See Something Urgent?

If you see content that represents an immediate safety concern (threats of violence, self-harm, or illegal activity), please:

  1. Report the content using the steps above
  2. Contact community administrators directly if possible
  3. In cases of immediate danger, contact local authorities

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will the person know I reported them? A: No. All reports are completely confidential.

Q: How long does it take for a report to be reviewed? A: Most reports are reviewed within 24-48 hours, though this may vary depending on the community's moderator availability.

Q: Can I see the status of my report? A: Currently, you won't receive notifications about your specific reports. However, if content is removed as a result of reports, it will no longer appear in the community.

Q: What if I accidentally report something? A: Moderators will review all reports carefully. If your report was made by mistake, the content will likely be approved and no action taken.

Q: Can I undo a report? A: Once submitted, reports cannot be retracted. However, moderators will make their own assessment regardless.

Q: What if I disagree with a moderation decision? A: If your content was removed and you believe this was a mistake, you can contact the community administrators to appeal the decision.
